send me them liner notes!

if youre a roots fan like i am then youve been spoiled into expecting elaborate liner notes every album. the notes for this album (i see you Khari Ferrari!!!!) are mad skimpy-actually there are no notes, just song credits-but that aint their fault. manufacturing costs go up the more pages your booklet is, and if im not mistaken, def jam wasnt having it this time…but like i said, if im not mistaken.

but wait! the new roots album has liner notes…complete with the lyrics AND those questlove “behind the song” stories that are usually included in the booklet…but you have to get it from itunes (because there is no manufacturing costs in data). but wait! someone somewhere in chain of production messed up and the behind the song shit wasnt included on itunes the first day, so you had to get story one from myspace.com/questlove and itunes is going to email everyone who bought the album the rest of the digital booklet?!?!?

*catches my breath and drinks water*

all that to say this, despite all that shit, the album is dope as shit, if you liked game theory and illadelphalflife then i cant see you not liking this one. BUT…i’m gonna need that digital booklet ASAP.

    Von, you are so on point with this! If the liner notes didn’t exist.. I would still want em. BUT they DO exist, and I’ll be damned if we can’t get em because of label b.s.

    Liner notes are the whole reason I pre-ordered the CD from okayplayer.com. Like I’d pay $20 for the CD otherwise. Much to my chagrin, they weren’t in the actual CD. So if someone emails the notes to Von, can you send a copy my way, as well?

    I love iTunes (yeah, I said it lol), but the play count on most of my downloads are out of order, including Rising Down. *sadface*

    Got my digital booklet though! :)

    its shit like that get urks me… the worst is wen there’s iTunes-exclusive tracks for some albums… we bought the damn cd… cudnt they just give us the damn songs… wtf… ppl dont even pay that much for mp3′s to b gettin free songs. hell they’re making like close 10 bucks on each cd anyway… they cud at least give us wat we pay for!

    we aint had liner notes since TFA if im not mistaken (okay Homegrown had liner notes and the live album booklet was dope)

    but no phrenology liner notes
    the tipping point had just lyrics i think
    game theory i dont remember liner notes

    i’ve kinda given up on Malik B showing up for 80% of the songs, Ursula Rucker poems (kinda glad that isnt popping anymore, no snark) and liner notes

    but yeah the album is sick even though I dont have an official copy yet, it’s the only one I havent purchased and they’ve put out like 4 since the era of online leaks. so im a dedicated fan.

    tipping point had liner notes, and phrenology had them…sort of. phrenology had like 2 sentence liners lol….

    im no quest, and tm is no roots, but i think im gonna blog the stories behind some tanya morgan songs

    Damn, I hope the vinyl has liner notes when I cop it…otherwise I’m gonna have to go searchin too. Packaging is everything nowadays, who’s gonna buy a cd with no liner notes and bare minimum artwork when they could get the MP3s cheaper? Give us somethin to pay for with these cds/lps.
